PAAU Senate Approves Continuing Education Centre, Academic Calendar, Commends VC Salisu Ogbo for Restoring Peace on Campus
The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, has approved the establishment of a Centre for Continuing Education and the 2026/2027 academic calendar, while commending Vice-Chancellor Prof. Salisu Ogbo Usman for restoring peace, security and academic stability on campus.

The Senate of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has approved the establishment of a Centre for Continuing Education and the Undergraduate Academic Calendar for the 2026/2027 academic session, while commending the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, for restoring peace, security and stability across the institution.
The decisions were reached during an emergency Senate meeting held on Tuesday at the University Auditorium, where members unanimously applauded the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for creating a conducive academic environment through proactive leadership and effective administrative reforms.
The proposed Centre for Continuing Education, which is subject to the ratification of the University’s Governing Council, is expected to expand access to higher education by providing flexible learning opportunities for professionals, workers and other categories of learners seeking academic advancement through lifelong education.
Senate also approved the academic calendar for the 2026/2027 session. Under the approved schedule, returning students are expected to resume on Sunday, October 12, 2026, while newly admitted students will begin the academic session on Sunday, October 26, 2026.
A major highlight of the meeting was the unanimous commendation of Professor Usman for what Senate members described as his outstanding leadership, commitment and dedication to restoring peace and serenity on campus.
In a rare show of appreciation, members rose in a standing ovation to honour the Vice-Chancellor, describing the current atmosphere within the university as one of the most peaceful and stable the institution has experienced in recent years.
The Senate also commended the entire University Management for strengthening campus security, promoting institutional discipline and creating an enabling environment for teaching, learning and research.
Members reaffirmed their collective commitment to supporting the administration’s vision of repositioning the university for greater academic excellence and institutional development.
Responding to the commendation, Professor Usman expressed gratitude to members of the Senate, stating that the recognition belonged to the entire university community whose collective efforts and sacrifices had made the achievements possible.
He said the progress recorded by the institution was the result of teamwork, unity of purpose and shared responsibility, stressing that the transformation of Prince Abubakar Audu University remains a continuous mission.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed his administration’s determination to build a globally competitive institution committed to producing graduates distinguished in both character and learning, while sustaining policies that promote academic excellence, quality service delivery and institutional discipline.
On academic integrity, Professor Usman informed the Senate that the case involving Dr. Maji Okpanachi of the Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, who was reportedly apprehended with students writing examinations in his apartment, had been referred to the reconstituted Examination Misconduct Committee for a comprehensive investigation in line with the University’s regulations.
He assured members that the institution would continue to uphold transparency and enforce its regulations to preserve the integrity of its academic processes.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Abiodun Ige, members of the Examination Monitoring and Security Committee and other officials involved in the conduct of the second semester examinations for their professionalism, vigilance and dedication.
Professor Usman further appreciated the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his unwavering support to the university, while also acknowledging the continued encouragement of the immediate past Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, towards the growth and development of the institution.
The emergency Senate meeting ended with members expressing renewed confidence in the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and reaffirming their resolve to work collectively towards sustaining peace, strengthening academic standards and advancing the vision of Prince Abubakar Audu University as one of Nigeria’s leading institutions of higher learning.
