KoSU, FUL Strengthen Collaboration on Campus Security as Institutions Share Safety Strategies
Kogi State University, Kabba, hosted a delegation from the Federal University Lokoja to exchange ideas on campus security, as both institutions explored strategies to strengthen safety, surveillance, intelligence gathering and emergency response.
Kogi State University (KoSU), Kabba, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining a secure learning environment as it hosted a delegation from the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) on a strategic knowledge-sharing visit focused on strengthening campus security and safety.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of the Federal University Lokoja, Professor S. D. Musa, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Ibileye, visited the university on Wednesday to understudy KoSU’s security architecture and exchange ideas on best practices for safeguarding lives and property within tertiary institutions.
The visit was initiated at the instance of the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, as part of broader efforts to improve security across higher institutions in the state through collaboration and the sharing of practical security solutions.
The visiting team was received by the Vice-Chancellor of Kogi State University, Kabba, Professor K.I.T. Eniola, alongside members of the university’s management and security team.
During the engagement, officials of both institutions deliberated on practical approaches to enhancing campus security, including the deployment of surveillance systems, improved access control measures, intelligence gathering and information sharing, emergency response mechanisms, and stronger collaboration with security agencies.
Speaking during the meeting, Professor Eniola reiterated the university’s resolve to maintain a peaceful and secure environment that supports effective teaching, learning, research and community service.
He acknowledged the support of the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo-led administration, noting that the government’s timely interventions have strengthened the university’s proactive security framework and reinforced ongoing efforts to protect members of the university community and their property.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that security remains a collective responsibility and assured the visiting delegation of KoSU’s readiness to sustain partnerships with sister institutions and other critical stakeholders in developing effective strategies that promote peace, stability and safety across university campuses.
As part of the visit, both institutions held a closed-door strategy session during which KoSU’s management and security team shared aspects of the university’s homegrown security framework and operational model with the Federal University Lokoja delegation.
The engagement underscored the growing collaboration among tertiary institutions in Kogi State to develop innovative and sustainable security measures capable of addressing emerging safety challenges while creating a conducive academic environment.
