Kogi Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Death of School Staff in Olamaboro, Conclude Homicide Investigation

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the death of Mariam Usman, a school staff member in Olamaboro LGA, and says they will be prosecuted for criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.

The Kogi State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in the investigation into the death of Mariam Usman, a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, Olamaboro Local Government Area, with the arrest of three suspects linked to the alleged assault that resulted in her death.

The Command disclosed that detectives attached to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, launched an intensive investigation following the report of the case on June 25, 2026. The investigation, according to the police, led to the arrest of three individuals allegedly connected to the incident.

Preliminary findings revealed that the chain of events began on June 17, 2026, when one of the suspects, Abdullahi Isiaka, allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary measures she reportedly took against his 11-year-old son during school hours.

Police investigators further established that later on the same day, Mariam Usman was allegedly attacked again while on her way to a mosque for prayers by another suspect, identified as Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo.

The investigation also uncovered that on June 18, 2026, Ojonojima Mary, who is said to be the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly visited Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka, where she assaulted the deceased at her workplace.

Following the attacks, the victim reportedly received initial treatment at Grace Clinic, Ugbamaka, before she was referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical attention. She later died on June 25 as a result of the injuries sustained.

According to the Police Command, investigators established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects—Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka.

The Command stated that investigations have now been concluded and that the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction to face prosecution.

Reacting to the outcome of the investigation, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the officers of the Homicide Section, SCID, for their professionalism, diligence and commitment in handling the case.

He reaffirmed the Command’s determination to ensure that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice, assuring residents that all criminal cases reported to the police would continue to receive thorough and professional investigation.

The Police Commissioner also urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, emphasizing the importance of resolving disputes through lawful channels.

He further appealed to residents to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information that would aid crime prevention and strengthen law enforcement across the state.
