The Federal Government has approved the establishment of a Federal Fire Service station in Kabba, Kogi State, to enhance fire safety and reduce property loss across Okunland.

Kabba, Kogi State

The Federal Government has approved plans to establish a Federal Fire Service station in Kabba, Kogi State, as part of efforts to improve emergency response and enhance fire safety across Okunland.

The development was announced by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, CG Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, during his official homecoming ceremony held at the Olonijola Event Centre in Kabba.

According to him, the decision followed a recent engagement with the Executive Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Barrister Zacchaeus Dare Michael, who had visited his office to advocate for the siting of a fire station in the area.

Olumode disclosed that the request received prompt approval by the management of the service, with arrangements already underway to ensure immediate takeoff. He noted that the local government authority has been advised to provide temporary office accommodation to facilitate the deployment of personnel and equipment.

He explained that the establishment of the station would significantly improve response time to fire outbreaks and reduce the scale of property losses in the area and surrounding communities.

The Controller General also used the occasion to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, acknowledging the role of the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Ojo, in his appointment, which he said aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.

Highlighting reforms within the agency, Olumode revealed that over 2,000 personnel have been promoted under his leadership, describing the move as unprecedented and critical to boosting morale and operational efficiency.

He further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to review the legal framework guiding the Federal Fire Service, noting that the existing law is outdated. He said the agency is working with the National Assembly to enact a more robust and modern legislation that meets global standards.

On partnerships, the Fire Service boss said the agency is collaborating with key institutions, including TETFund, which has committed to building and equipping fire stations across tertiary institutions, as well as the Tony Elumelu Foundation.

The announcement was received with commendations from stakeholders and community leaders, who described the development as a significant milestone for safety infrastructure in Okunland.

The event drew the presence of government officials, political stakeholders, and traditional rulers, marking both a homecoming celebration and a step forward in strengthening emergency management in Kogi State.
