Communique Issued At The End Of The Okun Dialogue On Unity, Security And Youth Development
Theme: One Voice, One Okun: United for Peace and Progress
Date: 3/9/2026 Venue: Armed Forces Mess and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja.
No campaign. No agitation. Just unity, peace and development.
PREAMBLE
Leaders, stakeholders, traditional rulers, youth and women representatives of Okunland converged today in the spirit of brotherhood and unity to deliberate on issues critical to the peace, security and development of our land.
After exhaustive discussions, the dialogue resolved as follows:
1. UNITY FOR SECURITY: Re-engineering the Security Architecture of Okunland
Observations:
The meeting noted the rising concerns of banditry, kidnapping, and farmer-herder tensions affecting our communities. It was observed that fragmented security efforts weaken our collective defense.
Resolved that:
1. Okun Community Security Network be established to coordinate all vigilante groups, hunters and local security outfits across the 6 Okun LGAs.
2. Traditional rulers and community leaders should work together to set up intelligence-sharing structures with federal security agencies in each LGA.
3. Government and well-meaning stakeholders be encouraged to support technology-driven tools such as communication gadgets and community patrol support for local security.
4. All Okun communities are urged to embrace peaceful coexistence and early conflict resolution mechanisms.
5. UNITY FOR STRENGTH: Building Strategic Elite Consensus and Political Cohesion
Observations:
The meeting observed that disunity and lack of consensus among leaders have limited Okunland’s ability to attract development and speak with one voice.
Resolved that:
1. A non-partisan “Okun Leadership Charter of Unity” be drafted to guide engagement on matters of common interest to Okunland.
2. Regular Okun Stakeholders’ Consultative Forum be institutionalized to ensure dialogue and consensus before major decisions affecting the region.
3. All leaders are enjoined to prioritize Okun interest above personal or party interest in all public engagements.
4. Elders and traditional institutions be given a central role in mediating and fostering unity among stakeholders.
5. UNITY FOR THE FUTURE: Youth Engagement, Job Creation, and Anti-Radicalization
Observations:
The meeting expressed concern over youth unemployment and its effect on the security and future of Okunland. Idle youth constitute a risk to every community.
Resolved that:
1. A Regional Okun Skills and Entrepreneurship Hub be established to provide vocational, agricultural and tech training for our youth.
2. Government, private sector, and diaspora sons and daughters be called upon to invest in youth-focused programs across Okunland.
3. Community leaders should set up mentorship and engagement platforms to guide youth away from crime and social vices.
4. Stakeholders will work together to identify and promote Okun youth with exceptional talent in entrepreneurship, sports, arts and academics.
APPRECIATION
The dialogue appreciates the Host/Convener, traditional rulers, security agencies, and all participants for their commitment to peace and unity.
CONCLUSION
We, the people of Okunland, reaffirm our commitment to one indivisible Okunland. We believe that with unity, we will secure our land, strengthen our leadership, and secure the future of our youth.
