Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa Clears APC Screening for Kogi East Senatorial Race
Frontline APC senatorial aspirant for Kogi East, Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, has successfully completed the party’s screening process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

LOKOJA — A leading aspirant for the Kogi East Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, has successfully passed the party’s screening exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development marks a major step in the build-up to the APC senatorial contest in Kogi East, as consultations and political alignments continue across the district.
The screening process, conducted as part of the party’s internal procedures for aspirants seeking elective offices, clears Dr. Mahmoud to proceed to the next stage of the race for the APC ticket.
Political observers within the district described the successful screening as a significant boost for the aspirant’s growing campaign, noting that his entry into the contest has continued to generate attention among party stakeholders, youth groups, and professionals across Kogi East.
Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, a Political Economy expert and development strategist, is widely known for his involvement in governance, policy advisory, and national development initiatives over the years.
Supporters of the aspirant said his background in public policy and economic development positions him as one of the notable contenders in the race.
Speaking after the screening exercise, members of his campaign team said the aspiration was driven by a desire to deepen effective representation and strengthen Kogi East’s voice in national affairs.

Over the years, the APC aspirant has built a professional profile within governance and development circles. He previously served as Political Economy Adviser at the Federal Ministry of Environment between 2015 and 2017.
He also worked as Project Economic Adviser on development programmes in Kaduna State and the North East Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation initiative between 2014 and 2017.
Dr. Mahmoud was equally involved in political mobilization and support structures during the 2015 Kogi governorship election, as well as the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections.
Since formally declaring his ambition, several youth associations, political stakeholders, and community leaders across Kogi East have publicly expressed support for his aspiration, citing his experience, national exposure, and policy background as qualities needed for the district’s future political direction.
With the completion of the APC screening process, attention is now expected to shift to the next phase of consultations and party engagements ahead of the primaries.
