Birthday, Book Launch: Rep. Leke Abejide Lauds Ambassador Jaiyeola Lewu, Describes Time and Space in Diplomacy as a National Memoir
Rep. Leke Abejide has congratulated Ambassador Jaiyeola Lewu on his 80th birthday and praised the launch of his memoir, Time and Space in Diplomacy, describing it as a significant contribution to Nigeria’s diplomatic history.

The Member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, has felicitated with renowned diplomat, Ambassador Jaiyeola Lewu, PhD, on the occasion of his 80th birthday, while commending the launch of his memoir, Time and Space in Diplomacy, as a valuable contribution to Nigeria’s diplomatic and historical literature.
Abejide, who served as the Chief Launcher at the event held at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, described Ambassador Lewu as an accomplished statesman whose decades of service to Nigeria have left an enduring legacy in diplomacy, international relations and nation-building.
The lawmaker praised the octogenarian for his distinguished career in the nation’s foreign service, noting that his commitment to protecting the interests of Nigerians abroad, strengthening bilateral relations and advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic objectives has earned him a place among the country’s respected elder statesmen.
According to Abejide, the memoir, Time and Space in Diplomacy, chronicles Ambassador Lewu’s remarkable journey in public service and offers valuable insights into the evolution of Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements, leadership experiences and key moments in international relations.
He described the publication as more than a personal account, saying it represents an important addition to Nigeria’s historical documentation and a reference material that will benefit scholars, diplomats, policymakers and future generations interested in the country’s foreign policy development.
“The memoir is a major contribution to Nigeria’s diplomatic history and national discourse. It captures invaluable experiences that will continue to enrich the understanding of diplomacy, leadership and international engagement while preserving an important aspect of our national heritage,” Abejide said.
He also congratulated Ambassador Lewu on attaining the milestone age of 80, praying for continued good health, strength and many more years of impactful service to humanity.
The colourful ceremony attracted an array of distinguished personalities from within and outside Nigeria, including former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (GCFR); the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Ambassador Oladapo Enikanolaiye; Cardinal John Olorunfemi Onaiyekan; senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and other eminent guests.
