Leke Abejide Secures APC Yagba Reps Ticket With 20,002 Votes, Defeats Babagbemi Adejola
Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has emerged winner of the APC primary election for Yagba Federal Constituency after polling 20,002 votes to defeat Pastor Babagbemi Adejola Joseph, who secured 842 votes.
Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming general election after recording a decisive victory in the party’s primary election.
Abejide secured a total of 20,002 votes to defeat his challenger, Pastor Babagbemi Adejola Joseph, who polled 842 votes in the keenly contested direct primary election conducted across the constituency.
The exercise, which took place across the 34 wards in Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro local government areas, witnessed a large turnout of APC members who participated peacefully in the voting process.
Results from the election showed overwhelming support for the federal lawmaker, with party members endorsing his bid for another term in the House of Representatives through what stakeholders described as a convincing and resounding mandate.
Political observers within the constituency noted that the outcome reflected the strong grassroots support enjoyed by Abejide following years of community engagement, empowerment programmes and constituency projects spread across Yagbaland.
The primary election was largely peaceful, with party officials, observers and security personnel monitoring the process across various polling centres.
Party members who spoke after the exercise commended the transparent conduct of the election, describing it as one of the most organized internal democratic processes witnessed within the constituency in recent years.
Supporters of the lawmaker celebrated the victory across several communities, describing the result as a reward for impactful representation and sustained connection with the people.
Speaking shortly after the declaration of results, party stakeholders expressed confidence that the APC would head into the general election stronger and more united following the successful completion of the primary process.
The victory further consolidates Abejide’s position within the APC in Yagba Federal Constituency ahead of the next general election.
The APC had earlier adjusted its timetable for the conduct of House of Representatives primary elections, fixing the exercise for Saturday, May 16, 2026, as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
