Leke Abejide Foundation to Rehabilitate Key Yagba Roads, Links Poor Infrastructure to Rising Insecurity

Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has announced plans to rehabilitate major roads in Yagba Federal Constituency, saying poor road infrastructure is worsening insecurity and economic hardship in affected communities.

Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, has unveiled plans through the Leke Abejide Foundation to rehabilitate critical road networks linking several communities in Yagba West, citing poor infrastructure as a major contributor to insecurity and economic difficulties in the area.

The road projects will cover the Ogbe–Ijowa Ekiti road as well as the Jege–Ogbom–Ogga–Omi–Igbaruku–Okeri axis, both of which have reportedly remained in deplorable condition for years.

Abejide disclosed the intervention during a community engagement programme in Yagba, where he also continued the disbursement of the ₦10 million earlier pledged to seven communities in Yagba West Federal Constituency.

The benefiting communities include Ogbe, Ogbom, Ogga, Omi, Odo-Ara, Igbaruku-Okeri and Iyamarin-Okeri.

Speaking during the engagement, the federal lawmaker said the intervention forms part of his commitment to improving the welfare of residents and bringing development closer to rural communities across the constituency.

According to him, the poor condition of roads within the axis has continued to hinder movement, affect farming and commercial activities, and create security challenges for residents.

“The lack of good roads in this area has made movement difficult and created safe spaces for criminal activities,” Abejide said.

“When roads are inaccessible, security agencies face challenges responding promptly to emergencies, while farmers and traders struggle to transport their goods. Addressing the road problem is also a way of tackling insecurity.”

He explained that the Ogbe–Ijowa Ekiti road serves as an important link between Kogi and Ekiti states, providing access for farmers, traders and commuters operating within the corridor.

Abejide further noted that the Jege–Ogbom–Ogga–Omi–Igbaruku–Okeri road remains the shortest route connecting the Oke-Oyi axis to Yagba West and links several communities across the two local government areas.

The lawmaker lamented that the roads have deteriorated over the years, making transportation difficult, particularly during the rainy season.

He disclosed that engineers would soon be mobilized to assess the affected roads and commence work aimed at making them motorable and reducing travel time for residents.

According to him, the 20-kilometre rehabilitation project will complement his ongoing empowerment initiatives targeted at supporting grassroots development within the constituency.

Community leaders at the event described the planned intervention as timely and long overdue, noting that improved road infrastructure would positively impact security, agriculture and economic activities in the area.

They also pledged support for the project and expressed readiness to continue backing Abejide’s political efforts, including campaigns for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

One of the community leaders commended the initiative, saying residents were witnessing an unprecedented level of direct intervention on rural roads within the constituency.

“Good roads will reconnect our communities, improve economic activities and restore hope to the people,” the leader said.

Abejide assured residents that similar interventions and empowerment programmes would continue across communities in Yagba West and Yagba East Federal Constituency as part of his people-focused representation.
