Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West Senatorial District have endorsed Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro and Hon. Salman Idris as preferred candidates for key elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsements emerged from a high-level strategic alignment meeting held in Lokoja on Monday, May 11, 2026, where party leaders and influential stakeholders from across Kogi West gathered to deliberate on the political direction of the district and the future of the APC in the state.
The meeting was attended by party executives, local government chairmen, members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, political appointees, elders, women leaders, youth representatives, and other critical stakeholders from the seven local government areas of Kogi West.
According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the stakeholders unanimously adopted Hon. Samuel Bamidele Aro as the preferred candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial seat under the APC platform.
The communiqué stated that the decision followed broad consultations across the district and was based on considerations of competence, political experience, acceptability, and the need for effective representation at the National Assembly.
The stakeholders also endorsed Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide for Yagba Federal Constituency, citing his record of constituency projects, empowerment programmes, and grassroots development initiatives across Yagba land.
Similarly, Hon. Salman Idris received the backing of the stakeholders for the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency seat, with party leaders describing him as a credible and experienced political figure with the capacity to advance the interests of the constituency.
Hon. Aguye was equally endorsed for Lokoja/Koto Federal Constituency as part of the broader consensus arrangement reached during the meeting.
The gathering reviewed the political situation within Kogi State and the APC, stressing the importance of unity, cooperation, and strategic political alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.
As part of efforts to prevent internal divisions, the stakeholders adopted what they described as the “Politics of Interest” framework aimed at promoting consensus-building, party discipline, and cohesion within the APC in Kogi West.
The stakeholders also passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, commending both leaders for their governance style, infrastructural development efforts, youth-focused initiatives, and commitment to economic growth and security.
President Tinubu and Governor Ododo were subsequently endorsed for a second term in office.
The communiqué further appealed to other aspirants within the party to support the consensus arrangements in the interest of party unity and electoral success.
Stakeholders urged APC members and supporters across Kogi West to remain peaceful, loyal, and committed to strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements.
They described the resolutions reached at the Lokoja meeting as part of a strategic roadmap designed to consolidate the APC’s political dominance and ensure stability across Kogi West and Kogi State ahead of the 2027 elections.
