2027: ADC Candidate, Akure Denies Stepping Down for PDP in Yagba West Assembly Race

ADC candidate for Yagba West II State Constituency, Dr. Toyosi Akure, has denied rumours of stepping down for the PDP candidate ahead of the 2027 Kogi Assembly election, insisting his candidacy remains valid and active.

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Yagba West II State Constituency in the 2027 Kogi State House of Assembly election, Dr. Toyosi Akure, has dismissed reports claiming he had withdrawn from the race in favour of another candidate.

Akure described the speculation making rounds in political circles as false and misleading, insisting that he remains the officially recognised candidate of the ADC for the constituency.

There had been widespread rumours alleging that the ADC flag bearer stepped down after an alleged intervention by Senator Sunday Karimi, with claims that he was persuaded to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Omoniyi Adeyemi.

However, speaking during a meeting with party supporters and stakeholders in Yagba West Local Government Area, Akure denied the claims and reaffirmed his commitment to the contest.

According to him, there has been no agreement, negotiation or arrangement with any political party or candidate regarding his withdrawal from the race.

“I want to state clearly that I have not stepped down for anybody. There is no arrangement whatsoever for me to abandon my ambition or support another candidate,” he said.

Akure maintained that his campaign structure remained intact and active across the constituency, adding that consultations and grassroots mobilisation were ongoing ahead of the election.

The ADC candidate accused political opponents of spreading misinformation to create confusion among his supporters and weaken the growing acceptance of his candidacy within the constituency.

He said the rumours were part of deliberate political propaganda aimed at distracting his supporters and destabilising the momentum of his campaign.

“Our campaign remains focused and fully on course. No amount of falsehood or political manipulation will stop our determination to offer purposeful and people-oriented representation to the people of Yagba West II,” he added.

Akure also urged party faithful and residents of the constituency to disregard what he described as baseless rumours and remain committed to the ADC’s vision for the area.

Supporters who attended the stakeholders’ meeting equally rejected the speculation, insisting that the ADC candidate remained firmly in the race and continued to enjoy growing support across the constituency.

Some of the supporters described the reports as politically motivated attempts to undermine the strength of the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.

They expressed confidence in Akure’s chances at the polls and pledged continued support for his campaign.

The development comes amid heightened political activities across Kogi State as parties and aspirants intensify consultations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
