The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has received sensitive election materials ahead of Saturday’s local government elections, scheduled for October 17, 2026, reaffirming its readiness to conduct peaceful, credible, transparent and inclusive polls across the state.

The receipt of the materials marks a significant step in the commission’s preparations for the elections, which will take place across Kogi State’s 21 local government areas, covering 239 electoral wards and 3,508 polling units.

In a statement issued in Lokoja on Thursday, October 15, 2026, the KOSIEC Chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, reiterated the commission’s determination to conduct elections that reflect the genuine wishes of the electorate.

Eri said the successful delivery of the sensitive election materials demonstrated the commission’s commitment to ensuring that all necessary arrangements were completed ahead of Election Day.

“We are fully committed to conducting elections that are peaceful, transparent, credible and acceptable to the people of Kogi State. The arrival of these sensitive materials is another clear indication that KOSIEC is prepared for the task ahead,” the chairman stated.

He assured political parties, candidates and voters that the commission would uphold the principles of fairness, impartiality and professionalism throughout the electoral process.

The KOSIEC chairman also urged eligible voters across the state to come out peacefully on Saturday and exercise their democratic rights by participating in the elections.

He called on political parties, candidates, security agencies and other stakeholders to cooperate with the commission to ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process.

According to Eri, the successful conduct of the elections requires the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, stressing the importance of protecting the integrity of the process and strengthening democratic participation at the grassroots level.

The local government elections are expected to provide residents across the state’s 21 local government areas with the opportunity to elect their representatives and determine the direction of governance at the grassroots.

KOSIEC reiterated its commitment to strengthening grassroots democracy through elections conducted in an atmosphere of peace, transparency and credibility.

The statement was signed by the KOSIEC Media and Publicity Unit on October 15, 2026.
