Kogi East APC Legacy Group Hails Governor Ododo for Swift Take-Off of Ibaji, Bassa Roads and Nine Secondary School Projects

The Kogi East APC Legacy Group has commended the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, for his swift response to the infrastructure needs presented by stakeholders from Kogi East, particularly the commencement of key road and secondary school projects across the district.
The Group noted that two recent public notices issued by relevant state government agencies indicate that some of the critical projects contained in its memorandum to the Governor have now progressed into the formal procurement and contract-award process.
Late last month, the Kogi East APC Legacy Group presented Governor Ododo with a comprehensive memorandum outlining the major developmental needs of Kogi East. The memorandum prioritised roads, education, electricity, healthcare, water supply and security, among other critical areas.
The Group described the latest developments as encouraging evidence that the administration is listening to the concerns of the people and taking practical steps towards addressing them.
Road Projects: Ibaji and Bassa Corridors
According to the Group’s spokesperson, Dr. Johnson Musa, the Kogi State Ministry of Works has invited tenders for the construction and rehabilitation of several roads across the state, with two of the listed projects directly serving Kogi East and specifically featuring among the priorities presented in the Group’s memorandum.
The projects include:
- Construction of the Idah–Onyedega Road in Ibaji, covering approximately 37 kilometres.
- Construction of the Odenyi–Oguma–Sheria Road in Bassa, covering approximately 13 kilometres.
The deadline for the submission of bids is 17 September 2026.
The Group said the two road corridors are strategically important, considering the significant volume of agricultural and commercial activities along the routes. Their completion, it noted, will improve connectivity, ease the movement of farm produce and people, reduce transportation costs, and enhance access to markets, healthcare and other essential services.
Dr. Musa said the Group would continue to monitor the progress of the projects while commending Governor Ododo for responding positively to the infrastructure concerns raised by Kogi East stakeholders.
Nine Secondary Schools for Kogi East
The Group also welcomed the announcement by the Kogi State Ministry of Education concerning the construction and upgrading of secondary schools across the state under the World Bank-assisted AGILE programme.
The programme covers 28 schools across 21 Local Government Areas, with nine schools located in Kogi East — one in each of the district’s nine Local Government Areas.
The projects are distributed as follows:
- Ankpa: UBE Junior Secondary School, Enjema — to be upgraded to Senior Secondary School.
- Bassa: Government Science Secondary School, Oguma — construction.
- Dekina: UBE Junior Secondary School, Efakwu Egume — expansion.
- Ibaji: Government Secondary School, Onyedega — construction.
- Idah: Idah Secondary Commercial College — construction.
- Igalamela-Odolu: UBE Junior Secondary School, Odolu — expansion.
- Ofu: UBE Junior Secondary School, Agojeju — to be upgraded to Senior Secondary School.
- Olamaboro: Ukoh Community Secondary School — construction.
- Omala: Government Science Secondary School, Ogodu — construction.
The Group described the even distribution of the projects as particularly significant because every Local Government Area in Kogi East is represented.
It said the projects would expand access to quality secondary education, strengthen educational infrastructure and provide greater opportunities for young people across the district.

Reacting to the development, the Group’s spokesperson, Dr. Johnson Musa, said:

The Group said the projects reflect a commendable development philosophy that places equitable distribution of public investment at the centre of governance.
It stressed that every part of Kogi East deserves a fair share of government attention and developmental projects, irrespective of location.
Expectations on Other Priorities
While appreciating the Governor for the progress recorded so far, the Kogi East APC Legacy Group expressed confidence that other priorities contained in its memorandum would receive similar attention.
Among these are the proposed national electric transmission substation, rural water supply schemes, the revitalisation of general hospitals, strengthened security architecture, additional road corridors, and greater openness and development regarding the Ankpa coal and Ibaji oil resources.
The Group pledged to continue engaging constructively with the government and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that these priorities receive the necessary attention.
The Kogi East APC Legacy Group therefore reaffirms its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Usman Ahmed Ododo, and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Group believes that sustained cooperation between the people and government will further accelerate development across Kogi East and Kogi State as a whole.
