Breaking: Abejide Extends Kano Empowerment Scheme To Igala, Ebira, Other Kogi Indigenes, Seeks Tinubu’s Re-election

2027

The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, RT. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has extended the maiden edition of the Leke Abejide Foundation’s empowerment programme in Kano State to include Igala, Ebira and other indigenes of Kogi State residing in the state.

The programme, initially designed for widows and women of Yoruba extraction in Kano, will now accommodate eligible Kogi residents across the three senatorial districts of the state, following the lawmaker’s approval.

The empowerment event is scheduled for October 31, 2026, at 10 a.m. at the Kano Pillars Stadium, France Road, Sabon Gari, Kano State.

The initiative, themed “Maiden Edition of the Leke Abejide Foundation Empowerment for All Widows and Women of Yoruba Extraction in Kano State, to Mobilise One Million Votes for the Re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Launching of N3 Billion Ultra-Modern Palace for Oba Yoruba Kano and His Council,” is designed to combine economic support for vulnerable groups with community engagement and political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to the lawmaker, the programme will benefit widows, women, youths, artisans, entrepreneurs, vulnerable persons and other residents requiring economic assistance.

The expansion is expected to provide an opportunity for eligible Kogi indigenes living across Kano State’s 44 local government areas to participate in the scheme.

Abejide’s Special Adviser on Public Communications, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed (BAM), ANIPR, disclosed the development in a statement, adding that arrangements were underway to engage the Onu of Igala Kano and the Ohinoyi of Ebira Kano to facilitate nominations and participation by members of their respective communities.

Bashiru said the move reflected the lawmaker’s commitment to extending the benefits of the initiative beyond its original target group and supporting Kogi indigenes living in Kano.

The development follows the inauguration of a 27-member committee by Abejide on September 28, 2026, at the palace of the Oba Yoruba Kano to coordinate the programme across the state. The committee is headed by Hon. Seyi Olorunsola as programme coordinator.

Speaking on his longstanding relationship with Kano, Abejide said his connection with the state transcended politics, noting that he had lived and conducted business there and built enduring relationships with its people.

“I belong to two states in Nigeria, Kogi State and Kano State. Kano has been an important part of my life. I lived here, I did business here and I have built strong relationships with the people. This is therefore an opportunity for me to give back to the people,” he stated.

The lawmaker said he would continue to mobilise support for President Tinubu among Kogi residents in Kano while using the foundation’s empowerment initiatives to provide meaningful economic assistance to members of the community.

He added that the programme would combine grassroots empowerment, community participation and political mobilisation, with the committee expected to work with relevant stakeholders to identify beneficiaries across the 44 local government areas.

The expanded initiative is expected to strengthen engagement among Kogi indigenes and other communities in Kano while extending support to vulnerable individuals and families. It also forms part of Abejide’s stated efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
