Cleric Raises Alarm Over Mopa Road Condition, Calls for Urgent Federal, State Action

Nigerian-American cleric condemns neglect of Mopa road in Kogi, urging urgent intervention from federal and state governments to avert economic and safety risks.

A Nigerian-American cleric from Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, Rev’d. Dr. Francis K. F. Iselowo, has raised alarm over the worsening condition of the Mopa road, describing it as a stark reflection of prolonged infrastructural neglect.

In an interview with journalists, the cleric criticised what he termed years of inaction on a critical road project that serves thousands of residents and commuters within the area. He noted that the once strategic route has deteriorated into a difficult passage, characterised by potholes, erosion-prone sections, and largely impassable stretches.

According to him, the situation poses serious economic and humanitarian concerns, particularly as the rainy season approaches, warning that the road could become even more hazardous if urgent action is not taken.

“This goes beyond inconvenience; it directly affects livelihoods and safety. The continued neglect suggests that the plight of the people is not receiving the attention it deserves,” he said.

Rev’d. Iselowo further explained that the poor state of the road has significantly impacted farmers, traders, students, and other residents who depend on it for transportation, access to education, and movement of goods. He cautioned that continued delay in rehabilitating the road could lead to increased accidents, economic decline, and further isolation of communities in the area.

He called on both the Kogi State Government and the Federal Government to prioritise the reconstruction and completion of the road, urging Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to treat the matter with urgency.

Describing the road as a vital economic corridor linking Kwara State to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, the cleric stressed its importance to regional trade, mobility, and inter-state connectivity. He warned that allowing the road to deteriorate further could have wider implications for commerce and transportation beyond the immediate communities.

The cleric also appealed to political leaders from the Okun axis to intensify efforts in attracting government intervention, emphasising the need to rise above partisan considerations in addressing the challenge.

He urged relevant authorities, contractors, and stakeholders to move beyond assurances and deliver concrete action, noting that residents are increasingly demanding tangible results.
