#2026IWD: Mangal Industries Empowers Women, Girls in Kogi and Abuja

In commemoration of this year’s, has implemented a series of empowerment initiatives targeted at women in its host communities in and young girls in Abuja.

The activities, held under the theme #GiveToGain, were designed to promote gender equality, support women’s economic independence and encourage the development of young girls.

Empowerment for Women in Host Communities

As part of the celebration, the company organised empowerment and skills acquisition programmes for women in communities around its plant in . The initiative specifically targeted widows, women with disabilities and other vulnerable members of the community.

Speaking at the event, the company’s General Manager, Administration and Human Resources, , reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting women and advancing gender equality.

According to him, the initiative aligns with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls.

Also speaking at the event, said the company views women’s empowerment not only as a social responsibility but also as a way of creating shared value within host communities.

She explained that the empowerment programme included the distribution of start-up kits and equipment to enable beneficiaries establish or expand their businesses.

Focus on Sustainable Development

In a presentation during the event, the company’s Sustainability Manager, , highlighted the role of women’s empowerment in sustainable development.

He noted that the company’s initiatives are aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 5, 8 and 10, which address gender equality, economic growth and the reduction of inequality.

Ahmad added that Mangal Industries promotes a workplace culture built on fairness, inclusion and respect, while encouraging organisations and individuals to support community initiatives that promote women’s development.

Women’s Health Awareness

The programme also featured a health awareness session delivered by , who spoke on the topic “Prioritizing Women’s Wellness.”

During the session, he emphasised the importance of early detection and prevention of diseases such as breast cancer, cervical cancer, hypertension, diabetes and mental health conditions.

He encouraged women to prioritise regular health screenings and adopt healthier lifestyles, noting that many women often neglect their own health while caring for others.

The items distributed included solar freezers, knitting machines and sewing machines aimed at helping the beneficiaries generate sustainable income.

School Outreach in Abuja

Beyond Kogi State, the company also organised a school outreach programme at in Abuja, where female students participated in two interactive sessions.

The first session, facilitated by , focused on menstrual hygiene and body confidence, while the second session was delivered by , who encouraged the students to prioritise education and remain focused on their goals.

As part of the initiative, backpacks containing sanitary pads, hygiene kits and educational materials were distributed to female students to support their health and wellbeing.

The programme ended with a vote of appreciation from the school’s vice principal, who thanked Mangal Industries for contributing to the empowerment and development of young girls in the community.

Through these initiatives, the company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women and strengthening the communities where it operates.
