Seven persons have been confirmed dead and three others injured after a Toyota Sienna travelling from Auchi to Abuja crashed into a parked heavy-duty truck along the Okene-Lokoja highway near Osara, Kogi State.
A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of seven persons along the busy Okene-Lokoja highway near Osara in Kogi State after a Toyota Sienna commercial vehicle reportedly rammed into a parked heavy-duty truck.
Reports which came in on Monday morning says the ill-fated vehicle was said to have departed Auchi in Edo State and was heading for Abuja, conveying passengers travelling to different destinations, including Abaji in the Federal Capital Territory.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the Sienna crashed into the stationary truck parked by the roadside, resulting in a devastating impact that left seven occupants dead at the scene.
Three passengers survived the crash with varying degrees of injuries and were promptly rescued by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who transported them to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The exact cause of the accident has yet to be officially established, while authorities are expected to commence investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over road safety along the Okene-Lokoja corridor, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways linking the southern and northern parts of the country.
