Nigerian Army Alerts Lokoja Residents to Live-Fire Training Exercise

Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade to conduct shooting exercise in Lokoja from March 30 to April 2, advising residents to remain calm and avoid the training area.

The Nigerian Army has notified residents of Lokoja and surrounding communities of a planned live-fire training exercise by the 12 Brigade, scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 2, 2026.

In a statement issued by the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the exercise will be conducted at the Chari Maigumeri Shooting Range as part of routine military training.

He explained that the exercise is designed to enhance the marksmanship, operational efficiency, and overall combat readiness of personnel, while also serving as an opportunity to assess the functionality of military weapons.

According to the Army, the training forms part of broader efforts to strengthen its capacity to tackle prevailing security challenges, including banditry and other threats within the region.

Residents of communities in proximity to the range, including Shettima, Zango, and neighbouring areas, have been advised not to panic at the sound of gunfire or increased troop movements during the period. They were also cautioned to steer clear of the training location to ensure their safety.

The Army further appealed to members of the public to help disseminate the information widely, including translating it into local languages, to ensure adequate awareness and prevent unnecessary alarm.
