Mopamuro Leaders Assure of Victory for Abejide as Lawmaker Unveils ₦500m Youth Loan Scheme

The Director General of the Leke Abejide Support Group (LASG), Chief Yomi Charles Olorunshola, alongside political stakeholders from Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, has expressed confidence in the support Abejide could receive from the area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Olorunshola gave the assurance at a homecoming programme organised for Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, the member representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The event attracted Kogi State Government officials, local government chairmen, APC leaders, political stakeholders and members of various support groups across Yagba.

Olorunshola said Mopamuro remained committed to mobilising support for Abejide, echoing assurances from other speakers who expressed confidence in the lawmaker’s political standing in the local government.

The Chairman of Mopamuro Local Government, Hon. Ademola Bello, said the area was prepared to demonstrate its support through the votes it would deliver, adding that his confidence was based on Abejide’s performance.

Former Mopamuro Local Government Chairman, Hon. Moses Sunday David, popularly known as Alomo, also assured the gathering that Mopamuro would support Abejide, despite the emergence of other potential contenders from the area for the House of Representatives seat.

Political stakeholder Chief Dayo Akanle urged Abejide not to be distracted by political challenges, while Chief Henry Omotosho called on the people of Yagba to stand with the federal lawmaker.

The Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade Arike, also expressed support for Abejide, declaring that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo was fully behind him. She described the lawmaker’s alignment with the state government as a significant development in Yagba politics.

The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kogi State and Chairman of Yagba West Local Government said Abejide’s political future had implications beyond the contest for the House of Representatives seat, pointing to the wider political relationships surrounding the lawmaker.

Similarly, the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government, Hon. Dare Joshua, popularly known as Venza, described the gathering as a preliminary political engagement rather than a formal campaign. He encouraged Abejide to sustain his activities and continue serving the people.

The Chairman of the Kogi State Scholarship Board, Hon. Raji Afolabi, said the programme was organised to welcome Abejide and expressed confidence in the support of students across the constituency.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Oluwasegun Joseph, said Abejide’s relationship with traditional rulers, government officials and members of the public was a factor that stakeholders considered important in their calls for continued support.

Speaking on behalf of two other members of the Kogi State House of Assembly from the constituency, Hon. Obaro Emmanuel said stakeholders across Yagba remained engaged in discussions surrounding Abejide’s political future.

Abejide Announces ₦500m Interest-Free Loan Scheme

A major announcement at the gathering was Abejide’s plan to introduce a ₦500 million interest-free loan scheme for youths across Yagba Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker said the proposed intervention formed part of his youth empowerment agenda. However, he did not disclose the eligibility requirements, implementation framework or disbursement timeline at the event.

Abejide also called on his supporters to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Usman Ododo and other APC candidates, stressing the importance of political cooperation within the party.

He thanked God and the people for their support, assuring the gathering that he would continue to represent their interests and remain responsive to their expectations.

The event was attended by several political figures and support groups, including Prince Phillip Orebiyi, Barr. James Fabola, Chief Richard Asaje, Hon. Maiyaki, Hon. Jones Daniel, Hon. Temitope Balogun and Bashorun M. D. Eseyin.

The Leke Asiwaju Support Group, Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), BATT Group and other political associations were represented, alongside the three local government APC chairmen and their executives, APC political office holders and party supporters from across Yagba.

APC candidates from Kogi West and Yagba Federal Constituency also attended the programme, which featured musical performances by the highlife band of Ijoba Yomex Flavour.

The gathering ended with expressions of support for Abejide and renewed political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections. While Olorunshola and other Mopamuro stakeholders expressed confidence in their mobilisation efforts, the actual level of electoral support will be determined by voters at the polls.
