Team Kogi expresses confidence ahead of first-ever appearance at National Para Games in Abuja
Kogi State’s contingent to the 3rd National Para Games has expressed strong optimism about securing medals as they prepare for their historic debut at the competition taking place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The athletes, who are representing the state for the first time at the national para-sports event, conveyed high morale and determination to make a significant impact at the games.
Speaking on behalf of the team, captain Sunday Miracle said the athletes are well motivated and focused on delivering an impressive performance. He commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, for their support and belief in the team’s potential.
“We are going into the competition with confidence and determination. Our goal is to make Kogi State proud by returning with medals,” he said.
Earlier, the Director of the Kogi State Sports Council, Mr. James Igah Abel, charged the athletes to justify the confidence reposed in them by excelling at the competition. He urged the team to remain disciplined and committed, noting that much is expected from them given the support they have received.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, who was represented by the Director of Sports Development in the ministry, Mr. Aje Paul, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to inclusive sports development.
He noted that Governor Ododo’s support for the team reflects his administration’s drive to ensure equal opportunities for all segments of society, including athletes with disabilities.
The commissioner encouraged the contingent to compete with determination and uphold the image of the state, urging them to serve as worthy ambassadors throughout the competition.
The 3rd National Para Games is expected to attract athletes from across the country, providing a platform for showcasing talent, resilience, and the spirit of inclusion in sports.
