Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Governor of the old Gongola State and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Mohammed Tukur.

Governor Ododo described the death of the elder statesman as a significant loss to Nigeria, particularly at a time when the country continues to benefit from the experience, wisdom and contributions of leaders who played important roles in its political and socio-economic development.

In a condolence message issued on Saturday by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the Governor described Tukur as a prominent Nigerian whose contributions to public service, business and national politics spanned several decades.

Ododo noted that the late elder statesman served the country in several capacities, including as Governor of the former Gongola State and Minister of Industries, where he contributed to the administration of public affairs and national development.

The Governor also acknowledged Tukur’s long involvement in national politics, noting that his political career placed him among a generation of Nigerian leaders who contributed significantly to the evolution and development of Nigeria’s political system.

According to Ododo, the late former governor’s wealth of experience in public service, business and politics made his passing particularly significant, coming at a period when the country still requires the counsel and institutional memory of experienced statesmen.

The Kogi Governor extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, as well as the government and people of Adamawa State, and the late Tukur’s friends, associates and political colleagues.

He prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and grant him Aljannah Firdaus, while also asking God to give his family and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

The condolence message was signed by Kingsley Fanwo, Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kogi State, and dated September 12, 2026.
