Kogi Governor Commends NYSC Corps Members, Assures Them of Safety and Welfare

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has praised NYSC corps members deployed to Kogi State for their discipline and exemplary conduct, while assuring them of adequate security and welfare throughout their service year.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to Kogi State for their discipline, patriotism, and exemplary conduct during the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Orientation Course, assuring them of the safety of lives and property throughout their service year.

The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the orientation exercise held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the state.

Represented by his deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu, Governor Ododo praised the corps members for maintaining high standards of discipline, teamwork, unity, and peaceful coexistence during the three-week camping programme.

He noted that the attitude displayed by the corps members throughout the orientation period reflected their readiness to contribute meaningfully to national development and community service.

According to the governor, the orientation programme was designed not only to prepare participants for their primary assignments but also to equip them with life skills capable of making them self-reliant after service.

He urged the corps members to continue to uphold the values of loyalty, discipline, tolerance, and respect for constituted authority as they move to their various places of primary assignment across the state.

Governor Ododo also advised them to integrate peacefully with members of their host communities, stressing that mutual respect and good conduct would help foster cordial relationships during their stay in the state.

The governor reassured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to ensuring their safety and welfare, emphasizing that Kogi State remains committed to maintaining peace and security across all parts of the state.

He encouraged them to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme introduced by the NYSC to acquire vocational and entrepreneurial skills that could help reduce unemployment and improve self-sufficiency after service.

As part of the government’s support, Governor Ododo announced a transport allowance of N10,000 for each of the 1,807 corps members who participated in the orientation course, amounting to about N18 million.

The governor further appreciated the management of the NYSC for its role in youth development and nation-building through the scheme.

Earlier in her remarks, the Kogi State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Chris-Moneke Chika Tochi, congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of the orientation exercise.

She advised them to accept their postings in good faith, remain vigilant, and conduct themselves responsibly throughout their service year.

The NYSC coordinator also commended the Kogi State Government for its continuous support to the scheme, particularly in the area of camp facility rehabilitation and welfare support for corps members.

Top government officials who accompanied the deputy governor to the event included the Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Hilary Ojoma Egwudah; the Director General, Kogi State Community Watch and Ancillary Matters, Hon. Muhammed Nasiru Alfa; Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment and Civil Service Matters, Hon. Aboh Ibrahim; and Hon. Alilu Yakubu, among others.
