APC Suspends Senator Echocho Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities Following Kogi East Senate Primary Loss
The APC in Odu Ward 2, Dekina LGA of Kogi State, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti-party activities following the emergence of Ameh Erico as winner of the Kogi East APC senatorial primary.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti-party activities following the outcome of the party’s Kogi East Senatorial primary election.
The development comes amid political tension within the district after reports emerged that Ameh Erico secured victory in the APC primary for the 2027 Kogi East Senate election, effectively ending Echocho’s bid for another term in the National Assembly.
Party stakeholders said the suspension became necessary to preserve discipline, loyalty, and unity within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was reportedly reached during a meeting of the Ward Executive Committee held on May 26, 2026, after deliberations on what members described as “prolonged anti-party activities” allegedly linked to the senator.
In a suspension letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Shaibu Mohammed, Secretary Kabiru Mohammed, and other ward executives, the party accused Echocho of fraternizing with opposition figures and allegedly engaging in political consultations believed to be connected to a possible defection from the APC.
According to the ward executives, the alleged activities intensified after the internal party process that produced Ameh Erico as the APC candidate for the Kogi East Senatorial election.
The party further alleged that the senator’s actions were tied to dissatisfaction over not securing the party’s ticket for a third term ambition.
The ward executives maintained that the APC could not condone actions capable of undermining the stability and electoral strength of the party in Kogi East.
Speaking with journalists after the announcement, APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa described the suspension as a necessary measure aimed at protecting the integrity of the party.
“Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s activities have become detrimental to the unity of the APC in Kogi East. The party cannot continue to tolerate actions capable of weakening its structure simply because certain ambitions were not realized,” Musa said.
He further alleged that the senator failed to provide the expected political leadership during critical elections in the state despite serving on the platform of the APC for eight years.
According to him, the party must prioritize collective interest, loyalty, and commitment above personal political ambitions.
Some stakeholders across Kogi East also expressed disappointment over what they described as limited impact from the senator’s representation over the years.
They commended the Ward Executive Committee for taking what they called a firm and courageous step to protect the party from internal instability ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The suspension letter stated that the action would serve as a warning to party members allegedly engaging in activities capable of threatening the unity and electoral fortunes of the APC in Kogi State.
As of the time of filing this report, Senator Echocho had not publicly reacted to the suspension.
