APC Stakeholder Faults ‘No-Confidence’ Report on Karimi, Questions Source Credibility

An APC stakeholder in Kogi West has dismissed the reported vote of no confidence on Senator Sunday Karimi, urging journalists to verify facts and questioning the credibility of the originating blog.

A key stakeholder of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi West, who spoke on condition of anonymity, has dismissed the reported vote of no confidence against Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, describing it as misleading, unverified and lacking credibility.

Speaking with our correspondent, the stakeholder cautioned media practitioners against rushing unverified political claims to publication, stressing the need for professionalism and due diligence in news reporting.

“Journalists must remain professional and ensure the authenticity of any content before publishing. Not every document circulating in the public space is credible or newsworthy,” he said.

The stakeholder faulted the communiqué being circulated, noting that it failed to meet basic standards of authenticity and transparency expected of such declarations.

According to him, the document lacked identifiable signatories and could not be traced to any officially recognised party structure, thereby raising serious concerns about its legitimacy.

“You cannot take a communiqué seriously when it is faceless. There are no verifiable names, no clear signatories, and no accountability. That alone makes it unreliable,” he stated.

He further alleged that the photograph accompanying the report was misleading, claiming it was not from any recent political meeting but rather a picture taken during the inauguration of the Yagba West APC executives.

“The picture being used to support that claim is not recent. It was taken from a different political gathering years ago and is now being recycled to create a false impression,” he added.

The stakeholder also questioned the credibility of the platform where the report first appeared, noting that it was published on a blog perceived in some quarters to have political affiliations.

He alleged that the platform is widely believed to be aligned with interests linked to the Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, Zacchaeus Dare, thereby casting further doubt on the neutrality of the report.

While the claim remains unverified, the stakeholder insisted that such associations make it necessary for the public to approach the report with caution.

He maintained that Senator Karimi, who hails from Yagba West Local Government Area, continues to enjoy strong support from his home base and across Kogi West.

“Yagba West is his home. The people have always stood by him and cannot suddenly turn against their son. That is not the political culture of our people,” he said.

The stakeholder described the allegations against the senator as politically motivated, adding that disagreements within political parties should not be exaggerated or misrepresented for strategic advantage.

“There may be differences of opinion, but that does not translate into a unanimous rejection. What we are seeing is an attempt to distort the situation for political gain,” he said.

He called for calm among party members and urged stakeholders to avoid actions capable of escalating tensions as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development reflects ongoing political contestations within the APC in Kogi West, with analysts calling for clarity, restraint and responsible communication to prevent further division within the party.
