APC Set for 8th National Convention in Abuja as Information Minister Confirms Readiness

Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), will commence its 8th National Convention in Abuja tomorrow, with government officials affirming that all preparations for the major political gathering have been concluded.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Thursday during a world media briefing in Abuja, stating that the party is fully prepared to host a smooth, transparent, and credible convention.
According to the minister, the theme of the convention — “Unity in Progress, Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda” — underscores the APC’s commitment to strengthening unity within the party while sustaining the broader national development agenda.
He noted that the theme also reflects the alignment between the party’s internal processes and the governance vision of the current administration led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Idris explained that the APC has consistently demonstrated political maturity and resilience in managing leadership transitions, adding that the forthcoming convention represents another opportunity to reaffirm the party’s democratic values and organisational discipline.
He further stated that the event will provide a platform for party members to highlight the achievements of President Tinubu’s administration while deepening support for the Renewed Hope Agenda within the APC structure.
The minister also assured Nigerians and members of the international community that the convention would meet high democratic standards, stressing that the party remains committed to unity, inclusiveness, and responsible leadership.
According to him, more than 8,000 delegates drawn from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate in the gathering. The convention will feature policy deliberations, leadership elections, and the emergence of new party executives.
The two-day event is scheduled to take place at Eagle Square from Friday, March 27 to Saturday, March 28, 2026, with party leaders expressing confidence that the convention will be peaceful and successful.
