A coalition of political leaders and stakeholders from Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State has thrown its weight behind the continued representation of Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide as Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was contained in a communiqué issued by the Mopamuro Progress Group, a body comprising community leaders, professionals, youth representatives and political stakeholders across the local government area.

The group said its decision followed extensive consultations across communities and interest groups within Mopamuro, stressing that the move was driven by the need to sustain unity, stability and development within Yagba Federal Constituency, which comprises Mopamuro, Yagba East and Yagba West Local Government Areas.

According to the communiqué, the endorsement should not be interpreted as a rejection of the political aspirations of Mopamuro people, but rather a strategic decision aimed at strengthening cooperation among the three local government areas in order to attract greater democratic dividends to the constituency.

The group maintained that sustaining the current representation would help consolidate the growing influence of Yagba Federal Constituency within the National Assembly, noting that legislative effectiveness is often built through experience, institutional knowledge and sustained engagement within the system.

“Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide has grown steadily in stature, credibility and legislative influence within the Green Chamber of the National Assembly,” the group stated, adding that his continued presence would enable the constituency to benefit from the networks and goodwill he has built at the national level.

The Mopamuro Progress Group further commended Abejide’s engagement with constituents, citing empowerment programmes, facilitation of projects and sustained interaction with communities across the constituency as indicators of purposeful representation.

It said the people of Mopamuro have closely observed his stewardship and are convinced that he has demonstrated commitment to the welfare and development of Yagba Federal Constituency.

“The overwhelming majority of our people stand firmly behind Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide to continue the good work he has started in the House of Representatives,” the communiqué stated.

While declaring support for Abejide’s continuation in office, the group also reaffirmed its commitment to fairness and political balance within the constituency.

It noted that in the spirit of equity and inclusive representation, the House of Representatives seat should rotate to Mopamuro Local Government Area after the completion of Abejide’s next term.

The group therefore appealed to political leaders and stakeholders in Yagba East and Yagba West to support Mopamuro’s aspiration for the seat when the time comes, describing the current endorsement as a demonstration of goodwill and political maturity.

The Mopamuro Progress Group also called on traditional rulers, youth organisations, women groups and political leaders across the constituency to continue to promote unity and collective progress in Yagba land.

According to the group, sustainable political and economic development in the constituency can only be achieved through cooperation, mutual respect and a shared commitment to the advancement of the people.

The communiqué was jointly endorsed by several prominent figures from Mopamuro, including Chief Yomi Olorunsola, Pastor Babatunde Samuel, Hon. Sam Williams, Mr. Kunle Abogun, Hon. Samuel Obasun, Prince Emmanuel Ayo, Hon. Jacob Abraham, and other stakeholders.

The leaders maintained that Mopamuro people remain committed to unity within Yagba Federal Constituency while also securing their rightful place in the future political arrangement of the constituency.
