ADC Chieftain Idris Rufus Condoles Egbeda-Egga Victims, Backs Calls for Urgent Relief After Devastating Rainstorm

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Idris Oluwafemi Rufus, has sympathised with residents of Egbeda-Egga community in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State following the devastating rainstorm that destroyed homes and displaced many families in the area.

Recall that KogiOnline.ng reported that the Okun Development Association (ODA) had raised alarm over the disaster and called on government authorities, humanitarian organisations and public-spirited individuals to urgently assist affected residents.

The rainstorm, which struck the community earlier in the week, reportedly destroyed more than 40 houses, while churches, shops and other structures were also badly affected, leaving several families without shelter and disrupting their sources of livelihood.

Reacting to the development, Dr. Rufus described the incident as a painful loss for the affected families and urged the Kogi State Government and relevant emergency agencies to move swiftly to provide relief materials and other forms of support for the victims.

According to him, communities affected by natural disasters require immediate intervention to cushion the hardship faced by residents who suddenly find themselves without homes or basic necessities.

He also appealed to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to mobilise relief materials, including food, temporary shelter and medical supplies, to the affected community.

Dr. Rufus further called on philanthropists, community leaders and non-governmental organisations to support efforts aimed at helping the victims recover from the disaster.

His appeal reinforces earlier concerns raised by the Okun Development Association, which had urged stakeholders to rally support for the community and help restore normalcy after the destructive rainstorm.

Community leaders say many displaced residents are currently relying on neighbours and relatives for temporary accommodation as they struggle to rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

Stakeholders have therefore continued to stress the need for urgent intervention to alleviate the suffering of the victims and assist the Egbeda-Egga community in recovering from the disaster.
