Leke Abejide Set to Defect from ADC to APC, Cites Internal Crisis and Legal Disputes

Rep. Leke Abejide hints at defection from ADC to APC, citing internal party conflicts and unresolved legal issues ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, , has indicated plans to leave the (ADC) for the ruling (APC), citing lingering internal disputes within his current party.

Abejide, who also chairs the House Committee on Customs and Excise, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja, where he expressed concerns over unresolved legal battles and leadership challenges affecting the ADC.

According to him, the party’s internal crisis—particularly matters still pending before the courts—could undermine its ability to participate effectively in the 2027 general elections.

“The issues confronting the party are yet to be resolved, especially those before the courts. This situation may hinder the party’s chances of fielding candidates in the next general elections,” he said.

He further criticised elements within the party leadership, alleging a lack of urgency in addressing the challenges confronting the ADC. Abejide referenced ongoing litigation, noting that the return of a key case to a lower court by the suggests that the dispute remains unresolved and may take time to conclude.

The lawmaker, who contested elections under the ADC platform in both 2019 and 2023, described his anticipated move to the APC as a “return home,” signaling a likely realignment ahead of the 2027 polls.

Beyond his party decision, Abejide also called on Northern Nigerians to support the administration of , particularly in light of ongoing economic reforms.

He defended key policy measures introduced by the current administration, including fuel subsidy removal and the unification of exchange rates, describing them as necessary steps endorsed by economic experts to stabilise the nation’s economy.

The development is expected to influence political calculations in Kogi State and beyond, as alignments begin to take shape ahead of the next election cycle.
