WoPU to Confer Responsible Citizen Badge on Pastor Enoch Adeboye for Patriotic Remarks on Nigeria’s Security and National Unity
Working People United (WoPU) has announced plans to honour Pastor Enoch Adeboye with its Responsible Citizen Badge, citing his patriotic comments on Nigeria’s security challenges and commitment to promoting national unity and responsible public discourse.

A coalition of organised labour unions, professionals, artisans, traders and stakeholders under the umbrella of Working People United (WoPU) has announced plans to honour the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, with its prestigious Responsible Citizen Badge in recognition of what it described as his patriotic disposition and commitment to promoting national unity.
The coalition said the decision followed Pastor Adeboye’s remarks at the US–Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington, where he addressed issues surrounding Nigeria’s security challenges and the responsibilities of the nation’s leadership.
According to WoPU, Pastor Adeboye’s intervention reflected courage, constitutional understanding and a commitment to strengthening national cohesion at a time when the country continues to grapple with complex security concerns.
During the event, Pastor Adeboye reportedly dismissed claims that the President had failed in tackling insecurity, explaining that while the Commander-in-Chief provides strategic direction and authorises security operations, the execution of such directives rests with the nation’s security agencies.
He maintained that the President’s constitutional responsibility is to provide leadership rather than personally participate in security operations, stressing that operational duties remain the responsibility of the institutions charged with safeguarding the country.
Reacting to the remarks, WoPU said Pastor Adeboye demonstrated a high level of patriotism by presenting what it described as a balanced and constitutionally grounded perspective on national security.
The coalition noted that his comments contributed to constructive national discourse by encouraging institutional accountability while promoting a clearer understanding of the respective roles of political leaders and security agencies.
Speaking on behalf of the organisation, WoPU Convener, Comrade Prince Akporeha Williams, said Pastor Adeboye’s intervention exemplified responsible leadership and genuine concern for the country’s stability.
According to him, the respected cleric has consistently used his public platform to advocate peace, unity and national development, distinguishing himself through measured and responsible public engagement.
“Pastor Adeboye has continually demonstrated leadership that transcends the pulpit. His interventions during critical national moments reflect wisdom, patriotism and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s peace, stability and progress,” Williams said.
He added that, unlike individuals who portray the country negatively on international platforms for personal or political advantage, Pastor Adeboye chose to encourage a more balanced conversation capable of fostering unity and strengthening public confidence in national institutions.
WoPU explained that the Responsible Citizen Badge is reserved for Nigerians whose public conduct, advocacy and interventions promote responsible leadership, constructive dialogue, peace and national development.
The coalition further clarified that the recognition is entirely civic in nature and should not be interpreted as a political endorsement, but rather as an appreciation of individuals whose contributions help strengthen democratic values, accountability and national cohesion.
According to the organisation, the award was unveiled during its Good Governance Summit, held on June 25, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, as part of efforts to celebrate Nigerians whose public engagements contribute positively to nation-building.
WoPU reaffirmed its commitment to recognising citizens who deploy their influence in promoting unity, responsible public discourse and sustainable national development, saying such values remain essential to Nigeria’s democratic growth and collective progress.
