Idris died on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at the age of 77.

In a condolence statement signed by its National President, Bashorun MD Eseyin, Ph.D., POHAN acknowledged the late governor’s years of service to Kogi State and his contributions to public administration and development.

Ibrahim Idris governed Kogi State between 2003 and 2012, a period that made him one of the longest-serving civilian governors in the state. He was popularly referred to as “Baba Kogi” by many of his political associates and admirers.

POHAN said his years in office represented an important period in the development of the state, particularly with interventions associated with infrastructure, education, healthcare and other areas of public service.

The association, which focuses on promoting effective and efficient public service delivery, said Idris left behind a record of service that would remain part of Kogi State’s political and administrative history.

According to the association, his passing has created a moment for reflection on his years in public office and the responsibilities he undertook in service to the people of the state.

POHAN extended its condolences to Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the government and people of Kogi State, as well as the late governor’s immediate family, children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and associates.

The association said the family and the state could draw strength from the memories of Idris’ years of service and the contributions attributed to his administration.

In its tribute, POHAN prayed for the repose of the former governor’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

The association also prayed for strength and fortitude for the deceased’s family, the government and people of Kogi State to bear the loss.

The statement was signed by Bashorun MD Eseyin, Ph.D., National President, Public Office Holders Association of Nigeria (POHAN).
