NYSC Kogi refutes viral claim of corps member castration, confirms he is safe and urges the public to avoid spreading fake news.

The Kogi State command of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has debunked reports circulating on social media alleging that a corps member serving in the state was castrated.

Speaking in Lokoja on Monday, the State Coordinator, Mr. Femi Osungbohun, described the claim as false and misleading, assuring that the corps member in question is safe, healthy, and actively carrying out his duties at his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

Osungbohun emphasized that the welfare and security of corps members remain a top priority for the scheme, in line with directives from the NYSC leadership. He called on the public to disregard the report and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic.

“We can confirm that the corps member is in good health and continues to serve at his assigned location. The rumour is entirely false and should be ignored,” he said.

Reacting to the development, the corps member identified as Obdarekpe Abdusalam Oshiorenua (KG/26A/0133), currently serving at Dangote Cement Factory, traced the origin of the claim to a social media dispute.

The 27-year-old Edo State indigene described the report as a fabrication, alleging that a social media acquaintance used his NYSC photograph to circulate the false narrative following a disagreement online.

According to him, the incident has caused distress to him, his family, and the NYSC community, prompting a call for authorities to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.

He also advocated responsible use of social media, urging users to avoid spreading harmful or misleading content that could damage reputations or incite panic.

The NYSC reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for corps members across Kogi State.
