Kogi State Mourns Death of Retired Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sani, Celebrates His Legacy of Service
Kogi State Government has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of retired Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sani, describing him as a distinguished military officer, elder statesman and patriotic son of the state whose legacy will endure.
The Kogi State Government has expressed profound grief over the death of retired Rear Admiral Alhaji Hamzat Muhammed Sani, describing the late military officer and elder statesman as one of the state’s most distinguished sons whose lifetime of service brought honour to Kogi State and Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, and made available to KogiOnline.ng on Monday.
According to the statement, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo received the news of the retired Rear Admiral’s passing with deep sadness, noting that his death marks the end of a remarkable chapter in the history of Kogi State and the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The government described the late Otase of Ebiraland as one of the few indigenes of Kogi State to attain the prestigious rank of Rear Admiral in the Nigerian Navy, a feat that reflected his dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to national service.
Beyond his distinguished military career, the statement noted that Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sani continued to serve Nigeria after retirement, including his participation as a delegate at the 2005 National Political Reform Conference, where he contributed to national discourse with wisdom, experience and statesmanship.
Governor Ododo, according to the Commissioner, described the deceased as an exemplary leader whose life was defined by patriotism, humility, discipline and selfless service to humanity.
The Governor observed that the late elder statesman’s commitment to peace, unity and the development of both Ebiraland and Kogi State would remain a lasting source of inspiration for future generations.
He further described the retired naval officer’s passing as a monumental loss, not only to Kogi State but also to Nigeria, particularly the people of Ebiraland, where he remained a respected traditional title holder and community leader.
The Kogi State Government extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Ihima, the Odumi Clan, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, the Ebira Traditional Council, and the entire people of Ebiraland over what it described as an irreparable loss.
The government prayed to Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive the shortcomings of the departed elder statesman, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear the painful loss.
The statement noted that Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sani’s enduring contributions to the military, national development and community service have secured him a place among Kogi State’s most accomplished sons, whose legacy of honour and service will continue to be remembered.
