Kogi State has commenced statewide CBT training for SS3 students ahead of WAEC, as Education Commissioner Wemi Jones begins inspection of the initiative.

LOKOJA

The Kogi State Government has commenced a statewide Computer-Based Test (CBT) training programme for Senior Secondary School (SS3) students, as part of preparations for the forthcoming West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC).

The initiative, which is being implemented across all 21 local government areas, is designed to equip students with digital examination skills and enhance their readiness for modern testing formats.

Commissioner Leads Inspection Exercise

The Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones (FCIB), has begun an inspection tour of selected schools to assess the level of compliance, readiness, and effectiveness of the programme.

The exercise commenced in Lokoja with visits to Harmony Secondary School and Eagles Academy, where the commissioner interacted with students and officials overseeing the training.

Officials of the Ministry of Education have also been deployed across the stateโ€™s senatorial districts to monitor the programme and ensure uniform implementation.

Government Push for Education Reform

Speaking during the inspection, Jones described the initiative as part of ongoing efforts by the administration of Governor Usman Ododo to modernise the education sector and improve learning outcomes.

He noted that exposing students to CBT systems ahead of their examinations would boost confidence and reduce anxiety associated with digital testing.

The commissioner reaffirmed the governmentโ€™s commitment to policies that support academic excellence and prepare students for a technology-driven future.

Free WAEC Registration for Public School Students

Jones disclosed that the state government has continued its policy of free education for public school students, including the payment of WAEC examination fees for eligible candidates.

According to him, the intervention is aimed at removing financial barriers and ensuring that students have equal access to quality education.

He urged beneficiaries of the programme to take the training seriously and strive for excellent performance in the upcoming examinations.

Stakeholders Applaud Initiative

Education stakeholders have welcomed the CBT training programme, describing it as a proactive step towards aligning the stateโ€™s education system with global standards.

They noted that early exposure to digital examination platforms would give students a competitive advantage and improve overall performance.

Focus on Technology-Driven Learning

The initiative underscores the state governmentโ€™s broader commitment to integrating technology into teaching and learning processes.

Observers say the programme could serve as a model for other states seeking to strengthen their education systems through innovation and digital transformation.
