The Kogi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed Hon. Abdullahi Bello, the immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Bello’s confirmation followed his appearance before the lawmakers, where he was assessed and subsequently cleared to join the State Executive Council.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the screening, the newly confirmed commissioner expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the appointment through effective service delivery.
He assured that his tenure would prioritise the welfare of local government workers, noting that improving their conditions of service remains central to his agenda.
“Anything that will advance the welfare of local government workers is what I will follow, and that remains my priority,” Bello stated.
He added that he would build on existing frameworks within the local government system to enhance administration and ensure continuity in governance at the grassroots level.
On the political outlook of the state, Bello maintained that the APC remains firmly in control, asserting that opposition parties lack the structure and influence to challenge its dominance.
According to him, the strength of the ruling party in Kogi State is closely tied to the performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level, which he said has continued to inspire confidence among Nigerians.
“The narrative now is that there is no viable opposition in Kogi State,” he said, adding that the state government under Governor Ododo is aligning with the policies and leadership direction of the President.
He commended Governor Ododo for what he described as a people-oriented approach to governance, noting that the administration is committed to addressing the needs and aspirations of residents across the state.
Bello expressed optimism about the future of the party, projecting that the APC would record sweeping victories in subsequent elections.
He stated that the 2027 electoral cycle would further consolidate the party’s hold on the state, describing it as an opportunity for the APC to reaffirm its popularity and performance-driven mandate.
The appointment of Bello is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the Ododo administration to strengthen governance at the grassroots and consolidate political structures across the state.
