Foundation, Kogi Commissioner Deliver Free Medical Outreach to Underserved Communities
A foundation, in partnership with Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, has provided free medical services to rural communities in Olamaboro LGA.
Olamaboro, Kogi State – March 17, 2026 — Residents of rural communities in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State have benefitted from a comprehensive medical outreach organised through a collaboration between a humanitarian foundation and the state government.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Esther Matthew Tonlagha (EMT) Foundation in partnership with the Kogi State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe, was designed to expand access to basic healthcare services in underserved areas.
The outreach, which took place in communities including Ogene-Igah and Okpo, featured a wide range of medical services such as general consultations, paediatric care, dental and eye examinations, as well as minor surgical procedures for patients requiring further attention.
Speaking during the programme, Commissioner Anyebe said the intervention was motivated by the urgent need to address the healthcare challenges faced by rural dwellers, many of whom lack access to affordable and quality medical services.
He noted that residents in such communities often travel long distances or incur significant costs to access basic healthcare, a situation the outreach sought to mitigate by bringing services directly to their doorstep.
According to him, the programme was structured to prioritise vulnerable groups, including women, children, and the elderly, while also enabling early detection of underlying health conditions through screenings and consultations.
The outreach also included the distribution of essential medications, ensuring that beneficiaries received immediate relief regardless of their financial status.
Beyond providing treatment, the commissioner explained that the initiative was aimed at strengthening trust between the government and the people, while reinforcing the importance of responsive and people-oriented governance.
He further expressed optimism that the partnership between the foundation and the state government would inspire sustained efforts toward improving healthcare delivery across rural communities in Kogi State.
Stakeholders noted that such collaborations remain critical in bridging healthcare gaps, particularly in remote areas where public health infrastructure is limited.
