Abuja, Nigeria — The Ekinrin Community National Association (ECNA), in partnership with the Ekinrin Traditional Council, has formally announced June 13, 2026 as the date for this year’s Akinrin Day celebration, unveiling plans to broaden academic competitions for students.

The decision was taken during ECNA’s monthly meeting held on March 7, presided over by His Royal Majesty Oba Johnson Kolade Otitoju, Egbo Lona I, the Akinrin of Ekinrinland, alongside the association’s national president, Hon. Duro Omonola.

Expansion of Educational Competitions

In a statement signed by Hon. Monday Oshatoba, Publicity Secretary of ECNA, the organisation said a key highlight of this year’s event is the expansion of the Akinrin of Ekinrinland Educational Foundation’s academic competitions. The annual inter‑school debate and essay writing contest will, for the first time, become an inter‑regional event, welcoming schools from Nigeria’s Western and North Central regions to participate.

Mr Oshatoba said the expansion is designed to “broaden the platform for intellectual engagement and promote academic excellence across a wider audience,” reflecting the community’s commitment to fostering education and critical thinking among youth.

Leadership and Planning

To coordinate activities ahead of the celebration, Comrade Aribido David Jayeoba has been appointed Chairman of the Planning Committee. He described Akinrin Day 2026 as a grand homecoming event for all sons and daughters of Ekinrinland, combining cultural celebration with opportunities for academic engagement.

“This year’s Akinrin Day is a must‑attend for all Ekinrin indigenes as we come together to showcase our rich cultural heritage while empowering the next generation through meaningful and thought‑provoking intellectual engagement,” Comrade Jayeoba said.

Invitation to Community and Well‑Wishers

ECNA invited all indigenes, friends, and well‑wishers of Ekinrinland to mark their calendars for the 2026 celebration. The annual event typically draws wide participation and serves as a platform for cultural reconnection, community solidarity and academic development.
