ABUJA — Democracy Newsline Newspaper is set to bring policymakers, public officials, traditional rulers, academics, business leaders and other stakeholders together for its 16th Public Lecture and Induction into the Good Governance Hall of Fame.

The annual event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Banquet Hall of the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

According to the management of the newspaper, the programme is designed to provide a platform for meaningful discussion on governance and national development, while recognising individuals, institutions and corporate organisations whose contributions have impacted positively on Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

The theme of this year’s public lecture is “Economic Reforms and Sustainable Development in a Democracy: The Nigerian Experience.”

The management disclosed the plans in a statement issued in Abuja, explaining that the event will also focus on achievements and initiatives in critical areas including governance, education, healthcare, security and economic development.

Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, said the public lecture would provide an opportunity for stakeholders to examine government policies, assess their impact and discuss practical approaches to advancing accountability and sustainable development.

He said the gathering would bring together policymakers, professionals, academics and other stakeholders to deliberate on issues central to Nigeria’s development while also celebrating individuals and organisations that have demonstrated excellence in public service and national development.

Chief Femi said the 16th edition was conceived to promote accountability, good governance and sustainable development, stressing that recognising exemplary performance remains important in encouraging institutions and public officials to uphold best practices.

He disclosed that distinguished Nigerians, state governments, institutions and organisations would be inducted into the Good Governance Hall of Fame in recognition of their contributions to the country.

The newspaper said invitations had been extended to governors, ministers, traditional rulers, captains of industry, academics and other prominent stakeholders expected to participate in the programme.

The event will feature a keynote lecture by a renowned scholar and policy expert, followed by the presentation of awards and induction of selected honourees into the Good Governance Hall of Fame.

Over the years, the Democracy Newsline public lecture has evolved into a platform for public discourse and recognition of individuals and institutions whose activities have contributed to governance, development and improved public service delivery in Nigeria.

The organisers said this year’s edition is expected to sustain that tradition by combining critical discussion of Nigeria’s economic reform journey with recognition of individuals and organisations considered to have distinguished themselves in advancing good governance and national development.
