Kogi Government Awards Contract for 9km Airport Road Dualisation to CCECC

LOKOJA

The Kogi State Government has approved the award of a contract for the dualisation of the road leading to the proposed state airport, in a move aimed at strengthening infrastructure and improving connectivity.

The project, covering approximately 9.1 kilometres, was awarded to CCECC Nigeria Limited after a competitive bidding process involving five construction firms, with the company emerging as the preferred bidder.

Presenting the contract documents in Lokoja on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works and Transport, Engr. Sagir Abdulsalam, said the project would provide a critical link between the proposed airport and the existing road network.

Abdulsalam, who represented the Commissioner for Works and Transport, noted that the construction is expected to be completed within 18 months. He added that the initiative aligns with the infrastructure development agenda of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

According to him, the dualisation is designed to ease traffic flow, enhance mobility, and support economic activities along the airport corridor. He stressed that improved road infrastructure would further boost the ease of doing business and attract investment into the state.

“The award of this contract reflects the administration’s commitment to expanding critical infrastructure and opening up economic opportunities,” he said.

The project is to be funded by the state government and is expected to create employment opportunities during its execution, while also contributing to long-term economic growth.

Responding, the Project Manager of CCECC Nigeria Limited, Mr. Austin Qi, expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence placed in the company. He assured that the firm would deliver the project in line with required standards and within the stipulated timeframe.
