Six Died, Nine Injured in Fatal Lokoja–Obajana Road Crash

Six persons lost their lives and nine others were injured in a fatal road accident along the Lokoja–Obajana highway in Kogi State.

Lokoja, March 17, 2026 — At least six persons have been confirmed dead, while nine others sustained injuries in a tragic road accident along the Lokoja–Obajana highway in Kogi State.

The accident reportedly occurred at Apata settlement when a Toyota Hiace passenger bus collided with a trailer at high speed, leading to a devastating impact.

Officials disclosed that the crash involved multiple passengers, with the force of the collision leaving several victims trapped before rescue efforts were carried out.

According to available details, the injured victims comprised eight males and one female, while the deceased included five males and one female.

Emergency responders were said to have arrived at the scene promptly, evacuating victims to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at a morgue.

Preliminary findings attributed the accident to excessive speed, a recurring factor in road crashes along the busy Lokoja–Obajana corridor, which serves as a major transit route linking the North and South of the country.

Authorities have continued to warn motorists against reckless driving, urging strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent further loss of lives.

The latest incident adds to growing concerns over road safety in Kogi State, with stakeholders calling for improved enforcement, driver education, and infrastructure measures to reduce the frequency of fatal accidents on major highways.

    The recent accident at Obajana highway was a very painful occurrence. We pray God should continue to protect us all on the high ways . To the road users, please try to always be driving responsibly and be mindful of our speed limits. To Government, let’s ensure we educate, orientate and enforce traffic, speed limits and other roads, vehicles 🚑 laws in order to curb these occurrences.
    To the NGO, Vounteers, let’s intensify efforts on the campaign on the responsible ways of handling vehicles and speed limits maintenance and prevention of road side alcoholic selling and drinking.
