PAAU NANS Stakeholders Disown Planned November 3 Protest, Urge Students to Stay Away
Stakeholders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) Chapter, Kogi State, have urged students to distance themselves from a planned protest scheduled for November 3, reportedly being organised by Comrade Isaiah Davies Ijele.
The position was made known by Comrade Suleiman Muhammed, former Chairman of the NANS Joint Campus Council (JCC), Kogi State, who spoke on behalf of the NANS stakeholders in the university chapter.
Muhammed clarified that the planned demonstration was not being organised under the authority or official platform of the NANS Stakeholders, PAAU Chapter, stressing that the group should not be associated with the proposed protest.
He therefore called on students to exercise caution and avoid participating in the demonstration on the assumption that it had the endorsement or backing of the stakeholders.
The stakeholders emphasised the need for responsible student leadership, constructive engagement and adequate consultation when addressing issues affecting students and the wider society.
According to Muhammed, students must verify information before participating in activities organised in the name of student bodies, particularly where the authority behind such initiatives has not been established.
He also cautioned against individuals assuming the right to speak for or represent a collective organisation without the necessary authorisation, noting the importance of protecting the credibility and integrity of student leadership.
The stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that their organisation’s position on issues affecting students is communicated clearly to the university community, university authorities and the general public.
The stakeholders’ clarification comes ahead of the proposed November 3 demonstration. The statement did not provide further details about the protest’s stated objectives or include a response from Comrade Isaiah Davies Ijele.
