ABUJA

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has led a delegation of senior political and government officials to the Abuja residence of the late former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, to condole with members of his family.

Among those who joined the Governor on the condolence visit was former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, alongside the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, and other senior government officials.

The delegation visited the deceased former governor’s Abuja residence on Sunday following news of his death earlier in the day in the United Kingdom.

The visit provided an opportunity for the Kogi leaders to personally identify with the family and offer their condolences over the loss of the former governor.

Ibrahim Idris, who was 77, served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2012 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. His tenure included an interruption in 2008 following a court decision on the 2007 governorship election, after which he returned to office following a rerun election.

The former governor remained an influential figure in Kogi’s political history and was also known for his business interests before and after his tenure in public office.

News of his death was reported on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with the death subsequently confirmed by a family source to the African Independent Television.

The condolence visit by Governor Ododo and former Governor Bello comes as tributes continue to emerge from political associates, former appointees, family members and other stakeholders who had interacted with the late governor during his years in public service.

Idris’ death marks the passing of one of the prominent political figures who shaped Kogi’s Fourth Republic political history, having governed the state for two periods between 2003 and 2012.

Further details on the funeral arrangements are expected from the family.
