Yagba APC Chairmen Hail Court Verdict on Abejide’s Candidacy, Call for Party Unity Ahead of 2027

The Executive Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across Yagba Federal Constituency have welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court affirming the candidacy of Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide for the 2027 House of Representatives election, describing the ruling as a victory for democracy, the rule of law and the people of the constituency.
In a joint statement issued on behalf of the party’s executive members in Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Local Government Areas, the APC chairmen said the court’s decision had laid to rest all legal questions surrounding Abejide’s emergence as the party’s candidate and created an opportunity for members to unite ahead of the 2027 general election.
The statement was jointly signed by the APC Chairman in Mopamuro Local Government, Hon. Olajide Stephen Adeyemo; APC Chairman in Yagba West Local Government, Hon. Abayomi Sunday; and APC Chairman in Yagba East Local Government, Hon. Abdurazaq Abdulkadir.
According to the party leaders, the judgment has further strengthened public confidence in the Nigerian judiciary as the custodian of constitutional democracy and the rule of law.
They urged party faithful, stakeholders and supporters across the federal constituency to put aside every form of division and rally behind the APC candidate, stressing that collective commitment would be crucial to sustaining the developmental strides already recorded in the constituency.
The chairmen also congratulated Abejide on the favourable judgment and called on him to remain magnanimous in victory by accommodating all interests within the party and fostering greater unity as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
They reaffirmed the unwavering loyalty and support of the APC structure across the three local government areas, pledging to mobilise members and supporters towards securing victory for the party at the polls while advancing the development and prosperity of Yagba Federal Constituency.
The renewed call for unity followed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Justice Omotosho dismissed a suit challenging Abejide’s eligibility to contest the APC primary election.
The suit, filed by Babagbemi Joseph Adejola against the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Abejide, alleged that the lawmaker was still a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the time of the APC primary and was therefore ineligible to contest under the APC platform.
In his judgment, Justice Omotosho held that the plaintiff failed to establish the claim with credible evidence and consequently dismissed the suit for lacking merit.
The court further ruled that issues relating to the grant of waivers and the nomination of candidates remain internal affairs of political parties, provided they are conducted in accordance with their constitutions and the law.
The judgment effectively affirmed Abejide’s emergence as the APC candidate for Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election, bringing the legal challenge against his nomination to a close.
With the court process concluded, the APC leadership in Yagba Federal Constituency said its focus is now firmly on consolidating party unity and mobilising support for victory in the forthcoming elections.
