Kogi Police Sustain Enforcement Against Unregistered Vehicles, Covered Number Plates and Illegal Foreign Plates
The Kogi State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles without registration number plates, obscured number plates and illegal foreign registration plates, warning that violators risk vehicle impoundment and other legal sanctions.

The Kogi State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing compliance with vehicle registration laws across the state, warning motorists operating without valid number plates or using obscured and unauthorized foreign registration plates to comply immediately or risk sanctions.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the Command said the ongoing enforcement exercise remains fully operational and will continue until motorists comply with existing regulations governing vehicle identification.
According to the Command, the operation targets vehicles operating without registration number plates, those displaying covered, defaced, altered or obscured number plates, as well as vehicles unlawfully using foreign registration numbers.
The Police stressed that owners and drivers found violating the regulations face the possibility of having their vehicles impounded, in addition to other sanctions prescribed by law.
The Command explained that the exercise is designed to strengthen public safety, improve crime prevention, enhance intelligence gathering and ensure that vehicles operating within Kogi State can be easily identified and traced when necessary.
It noted that security agencies have observed that criminals often exploit vehicles without visible registration numbers or with concealed number plates to carry out criminal activities while avoiding identification.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, said the enforcement aligns with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which prioritises effective law enforcement and strict adherence to extant laws as part of efforts to create a safer and more secure environment.
The Police Command advised all vehicle owners and motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with valid registration number plates.
Motorists were also directed to avoid covering, altering, tinting, defacing or obscuring their number plates in any manner, while those using foreign registration numbers were urged to ensure such plates comply fully with applicable laws and regulations.
The Command further instructed motorists to remove any unauthorized coverings or devices capable of concealing registration numbers to avoid unnecessary inconvenience during the ongoing enforcement operation.
While appreciating the continued cooperation of law-abiding residents, the Police assured members of the public that the exercise would be conducted professionally, fairly and without discrimination, in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act, 2020, and the Nigeria Police Regulations.
The Command urged motorists to comply with the directives, emphasizing that adherence to vehicle registration laws remains essential to strengthening security and supporting effective policing across Kogi State.
