APC Screens Yakubu Ajaka for Kogi East Senate Bid, Urges Peace and Reconciliation
Former Kogi governorship candidate Yakubu Ajaka has scaled the APC screening for Kogi East Senatorial District and called for unity, reconciliation, and development across the region.

ABUJA — Political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered momentum on Saturday as former Kogi governorship candidate and prominent political figure, Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, successfully completed the All Progressives Congress (APC) screening process for the Kogi East Senatorial race.
Ajaka, popularly known as “Muri” among his supporters, participated in the screening exercise conducted by the party in Abuja as aspirants continue consultations and preparations ahead of the APC primary elections.
Party sources disclosed that the APC Screening Committee, chaired by former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, granted the aspirant a waiver to “take a bow and go,” a gesture many supporters interpreted as recognition of his longstanding involvement and contributions to the party.
Ajaka, who previously served as Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, spoke with journalists shortly after the screening, where he called for reconciliation, peace, and unity among the people of Kogi East.
He stressed the need for political stakeholders and community leaders to work together in the interest of the Igala nation and the broader development of Kogi State.
According to him, sustainable progress can only be achieved in an atmosphere of cooperation and collective commitment to the common good.
“My aspiration is about service, inclusion, and giving the people effective representation that reflects their true interests and aspirations,” Ajaka stated.
The senatorial aspirant said his ambition was driven by a desire to attract more federal projects, youth empowerment opportunities, infrastructural development, and economic investments to Kogi East through purposeful representation at the National Assembly.
He also pledged to deploy his political experience and national network to advance the interests of the district if elected.
Ajaka assured supporters that his campaign would focus on practical solutions to unemployment, insecurity, poor infrastructure, and other developmental challenges confronting communities within the senatorial district.
In an emotional moment during the interaction, the APC aspirant paid tribute to supporters who lost their lives during the 2023 governorship election period, promising continued support for their families.
He further appealed to APC members and residents of Kogi State to support the administration and re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the President’s leadership as important to Nigeria’s economic reforms and national stability.
Political observers believe Ajaka’s growing grassroots support across the nine local government areas of Kogi East has strengthened his standing ahead of the 2027 senatorial contest.
