A frontline aspirant for the Kogi East Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa, has formally submitted his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development signals the official commencement of his bid to represent Kogi East in the Senate, amid increasing political consultations and alignments within the district.
Dr. Mahmoud, a political economy expert and development strategist, is regarded in political circles as one of the notable contenders seeking the APC ticket for the senatorial seat.
The submission of the forms, according to political associates of the aspirant, reflects his commitment to providing what they described as “purposeful and strategic representation” for the people of Kogi East.
Supporters of the APC chieftain said his decision to join the race was motivated by the need to strengthen the district’s voice at the national level and attract greater development opportunities to the region through effective legislative engagement.
They maintained that Kogi East requires leadership with national reach, policy understanding, and the capacity to influence governance and developmental conversations in the country.
Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa has built a career spanning governance, policy development, economic advisory, and strategic planning.
He previously served as Political Economy Adviser to the Federal Ministry of Environment between 2015 and 2017. He also worked on development and recovery programmes, including advisory roles connected to Kaduna State projects and the North East Recovery, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation initiative.
Beyond governance, the aspirant has remained active in political mobilization within the APC over the years. He reportedly played significant roles during the 2015 Kogi governorship election as well as the 2019 and 2023 presidential campaigns.
Observers within the district believe his experience in policy formulation, economic strategy, and political networking could position him as a major contender in the race for the APC senatorial ticket.
Since publicly indicating interest in the contest, several youth groups, professionals, and political stakeholders across Kogi East have continued to rally support for his aspiration, describing him as a candidate with the experience and exposure needed to advance the district’s interests.
Political analysts say the formal submission of nomination forms by Dr. Mahmoud Bala Alfa is likely to intensify political activities within the APC as the party gradually moves toward its internal processes ahead of the 2027 elections.
