Kogi Central Senate 2027: Momoh Obaro Picks APC Nomination Form, Declares Ambition
Businessman and grassroots mobiliser Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro has joined the Kogi Central Senate race after obtaining the APC nomination form, promising inclusive representation and accelerated development ahead of the 2027 elections.

The contest for the Kogi Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections gathered momentum on Tuesday as businessman and grassroots mobiliser, Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro, officially declared his ambition after obtaining the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination and expression of interest forms.
Obaro picked up the forms at the Abuja Intercontinental Hotel, one of the venues designated by the ruling party for the exercise, in the company of supporters and political associates who accompanied him in a show of solidarity.
With the move, the Kogi-born entrepreneur has formally entered what is expected to be a keenly contested race for the senatorial seat, where he is likely to face strong competition from notable political figures including incumbent Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and former Governor Yahaya Bello, who are seen as influential forces in the district’s political landscape.
A former governorship aspirant and the current Secretary of the APC UK Branch, Obaro said his decision to contest for the Senate was informed by his desire to offer people-oriented leadership and stimulate faster development across Kogi Central.
He explained that his ambition aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that the district deserves purposeful and quality representation capable of unlocking greater opportunities for the people.
According to him, while previous leaders have made contributions to the growth of the district, there remains significant room for improvement in the areas of social welfare, economic empowerment, and infrastructure.
“Successive administrations have done their best, but much more needs to be achieved. I see myself as the missing link, bringing exposure, intellectual capacity, grassroots support, and the will to make a difference,” Obaro stated.
The aspirant pledged to run an inclusive representation model that prioritises the needs of women, youths, and vulnerable groups, while focusing on practical interventions that directly improve the lives of the people.
He outlined some of his priority areas to include the provision of pipe-borne water, financial support schemes for women, youth empowerment programmes through mini-livestock industries, scholarships for students, and the establishment of ultra-modern libraries in communities across the district.
Obaro said these initiatives are designed to address pressing development needs in Kogi Central while creating opportunities for economic advancement and human capital development.
Beyond politics, Obaro is known in the district as a development consultant, data analyst, and philanthropist, with a reputation for grassroots engagement and support for community-based initiatives.
He holds an MBA and an MSc in Software Engineering, qualifications that supporters say have equipped him with the technical knowledge and administrative capacity required for effective legislative service.
His political aspiration also appears to have gained support from traditional institutions in the district. In December 2025, the Eziogu Supreme Council of Chiefs, under the leadership of the Ozumi of Okene, HRH Haruna Onotu, reportedly endorsed him unanimously, describing him as a symbol of unity, credibility, and leadership capacity.
Political observers believe Obaro’s entrance into the race is likely to reshape the political calculations in Kogi Central, where permutations for the 2027 elections are already gathering pace.
With the APC nomination process underway, attention is expected to shift to the emerging alignments within the party as aspirants begin to position themselves for what promises to be an intense battle for one of the most strategic Senate seats in Kogi State.
