2027 Reps Race: Ex-Kogi Commissioner Mohammed Ahovi-Yusuf Declares for Adavi/Okehi, Unveils Development Agenda

Former Kogi Commissioner for Works, Engr. Mohammed Ahovi-Yusuf, has declared for the Adavi/Okehi House of Representatives seat in 2027, promising quality representation, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, and transparent leadership.

Former Kogi State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Mohammed Ahovi-Yusuf, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Ahovi-Yusuf made the declaration on Saturday during a well-attended event at LGEA Osisi Primary School Field, Adavi, where he also unveiled his manifesto before party members, political stakeholders, and supporters drawn from across the constituency.

In his address, the former commissioner said his decision to join the race was informed by the need to deepen development at the grassroots and consolidate the achievements of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, especially within Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency.

He pledged to work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure effective representation, attract meaningful federal projects, and improve the living conditions of the people.

According to him, his ambition is driven by a commitment to give the people stronger representation and ensure that the dividends of democracy are felt across all communities in the constituency.

“I envision a constituency where the people have a stronger voice, where youths are empowered, women are supported, and communities enjoy the dividends of democracy. I am bringing not just promises, but experience, commitment, and a proven dedication to public service,” he said.

Ahovi-Yusuf outlined a people-centred legislative agenda, with emphasis on road infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, job creation, and economic development, saying these sectors remain critical to unlocking the constituency’s potential.

He stated that his legislative focus would include creating vocational and digital opportunities for young people through ICT training, entrepreneurship support, and skills acquisition programmes aimed at building self-reliance among youths.

“Our youths are the backbone of our communities; they are our future. We will not only train them, but empower them to stand on their own,” he added.

The APC aspirant also stressed the importance of improving access to clean water across the constituency, identifying the revitalisation of the Osara Dam as one of his priority projects if elected.

“Provision of potable and clean water is not a privilege; it is the people’s right,” he said.

On governance and public accountability, Ahovi-Yusuf promised to run an open and inclusive representation model that would ensure constituents are carried along in constituency projects and legislative engagements.

He said his years in public office had prepared him for the task ahead, expressing confidence that his administrative experience would translate into effective service delivery at the National Assembly.

Before his resignation from the Kogi State Executive Council in March, Ahovi-Yusuf served as Commissioner for Works under Governor Ododo. He had earlier served as Senior Special Assistant on Solid Minerals to former Governor Yahaya Bello, a role that gave him visibility in the state’s governance structure.

Political stakeholders at the declaration event expressed confidence in his candidacy, describing him as a tested administrator with the capacity to provide purposeful representation for the people of Adavi/Okehi.

His formal entry into the race is already generating momentum in the constituency, with supporters describing his ambition as a grassroots-driven movement focused on infrastructure renewal, economic opportunities, and inclusive growth.

With the 2027 political season gradually gathering pace, Ahovi-Yusuf’s declaration is expected to reshape the contest for the federal seat as the APC begins early positioning ahead of party primaries.
