Olumoko Urges Kogi West to Back Ododo’s Second Term, Describes Alliance With Kogi Central as Path to Governorship
Kogi West APC stakeholder, Hon. Funsho Olumoko, has urged political leaders in the district to support Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s second-term bid, saying sustained cooperation with Kogi Central offers the quickest path for Kogi West to produce a governor.
A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholder in Kogi West, Hon. Funsho Olumoko, has called on political leaders and stakeholders in the senatorial district to throw their weight behind Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s second-term ambition, describing continued political cooperation with Kogi Central as the most strategic route for Kogi West to realise its governorship aspiration.
Olumoko made the appeal on Thursday while addressing stakeholders during a visit to the palace of the Ohimege Igu of Koton Karfe, His Royal Highness Alhaji Saidu Akawu Salihu.
Speaking during the meeting, Olumoko said Kogi West and Kogi Central have enjoyed a longstanding political understanding that should be preserved and strengthened rather than undermined by personal political interests.
He noted that while some individuals were attempting to disrupt the existing relationship between the two senatorial districts, leaders in Kogi West remained convinced that sustained collaboration with Kogi Central would ultimately serve the collective interest of both regions.
According to him, no senatorial district in Kogi State has the electoral strength to produce a governor without building alliances with other parts of the state.
Olumoko argued that supporting Governor Ododo’s bid for a second term represents the shortest and most practical route for Kogi West to eventually produce a governor.
He questioned the opposition to the governor’s second-term aspiration, insisting that those who have repeatedly sought elective offices should not deny another leader the opportunity to seek re-election.
“How can somebody who is contesting for a fifth term say someone else cannot go for a second term? He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. If someone can seek a fifth term, why shouldn’t Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo seek a second term?” he said.
He maintained that the debate over the governor’s re-election had contributed to rising political tension, stressing that fairness and consistency should remain guiding principles in democratic politics.
Olumoko appealed to the Ohimege Igu of Koton Karfe to use his influence in encouraging political leaders and stakeholders within Kogi Central to sustain the existing partnership with Kogi West by supporting Governor Ododo’s second-term bid.
He also urged political stakeholders across Kogi West to remain united and committed to strengthening the alliance between the two senatorial districts, expressing confidence that such cooperation would ultimately pave the way for Kogi West to achieve its long-standing governorship ambition.
According to him, the time has come for political actors to place collective interest above personal ambition in order to secure lasting political gains for the people of Kogi West and the state at large.
