Kogi State Governor’s SSA on Grassroots Mobilisation, Hon. Amodu Abubakar, says former Governor Yahaya Bello’s achievements in infrastructure, youth empowerment, education and healthcare remain his strongest political assets ahead of the 2027 Kogi Central Senatorial race.

A Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Grassroots Mobilisation, Hon. Amodu Abubakar, has declared that the developmental legacy of former Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello remains a formidable political asset capable of delivering overwhelming support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Lokoja, Amodu maintained that Bello’s eight-year administration transformed communities across Kogi State through strategic investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment and inclusive governance, adding that the former governor’s record continues to resonate with the grassroots.

According to the governor’s aide, Bello’s administration executed extensive road construction and rehabilitation projects across Lokoja, Okene, Kabba, Ankpa, Olamaboro and several other communities, improving rural-urban connectivity, boosting agricultural activities and expanding economic opportunities for residents.

He also highlighted what he described as significant investments in the healthcare sector, noting that the rehabilitation of more than 120 primary healthcare centres, alongside the establishment and upgrade of specialist hospitals in Gegu-Beki, Isanlu and Ajaokuta, brought quality medical services closer to the people.

Amodu further praised the former governor’s handling of local government administration, saying Bello adopted policies that protected jobs through prudent management of resources rather than embarking on mass retrenchment, a decision he described as evidence of people-oriented leadership.

The SSA equally pointed to landmark projects undertaken during Bello’s tenure, including the Muhammadu Buhari Civic Centre and the redevelopment of Lokoja Stadium into the 15,000-capacity Muhammadu Buhari Square, describing them as enduring public assets that continue to serve government and the people.

On youth development, Amodu said Bello distinguished himself by implementing programmes that equipped thousands of young people with vocational and entrepreneurial skills, creating pathways for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

He also listed education among the former governor’s major achievements, citing the establishment of GYB Model Science Secondary Schools, the creation of an additional state-owned university that made Kogi the first North-Central state with three state universities, as well as the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for students in public secondary schools to improve access to education.

The governor’s aide further described Bello as a champion of inclusive governance, recalling the appointment of youths and women into strategic government positions, including the emergence of a female Secretary to the State Government and Nigeria’s first female Aide-de-Camp serving under a state governor.

According to him, those initiatives strengthened grassroots participation in governance while inspiring confidence among young people across the state.

“The people have not forgotten the roads, hospitals, schools, empowerment programmes and opportunities that transformed lives during Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s administration. His achievements remain visible across Kogi State and continue to speak for themselves,” Amodu said.

Looking ahead to the 2027 political season, he expressed confidence that Bello’s widespread goodwill, developmental record and enduring relationship with the people would provide the APC with a significant advantage in Kogi Central should the former governor seek the senatorial seat.

He concluded that Bello’s legacy in grassroots development, infrastructure renewal, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and inclusive governance has firmly established him as one of Kogi State’s most impactful political leaders, insisting that those accomplishments would continue to attract strong public support.
