Kogi West senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Aro Samuel Bamidele, on Tuesday visited Iluke community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area to sympathize with residents following the recent bandit attack that left the community in mourning and heightened security concerns across the area.
The visit came in the wake of the deadly attack that claimed the life of the Vice Principal of Government Secondary School, Iluke, while throwing the community into grief and anxiety.
During the visit, Aro inspected some of the locations affected by the attack and received firsthand briefings on the security situation. He later proceeded to the palace of the traditional ruler of Iluke, His Royal Majesty, Oba Funsho Ayinmero, where he met with community leaders and residents.
Speaking during the engagement, the monarch recounted the events surrounding the attack and expressed appreciation to security agencies and local vigilante groups for their prompt response. According to the royal father, the intervention of security operatives helped prevent greater casualties and led to the rescue of dozens of students and residents who were targeted by the attackers.
The traditional ruler also acknowledged the efforts of the Kogi State Government and noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo had earlier visited the community to assess the situation and engage stakeholders on measures aimed at strengthening security in the area.
Addressing residents, Aro expressed sympathy with families affected by the incident and assured the community that efforts were ongoing to address the security challenges confronting the area.
He said the state government remained committed to tackling insecurity and restoring lasting peace across Kogi State, particularly in vulnerable communities within Okunland. He noted that the governor had demonstrated strong commitment toward finding lasting solutions to the menace of banditry and other criminal activities.
The APC senatorial hopeful further pledged to engage relevant authorities and security institutions to ensure that the concerns raised by residents receive urgent attention.
As part of the visit, Aro and members of his delegation also visited the military formation stationed in the area, where he commended officers and soldiers for their courage and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property.
He encouraged the troops to remain steadfast in their duties and assured them of continued support from political leaders and stakeholders within the district.
The visit attracted several political leaders and stakeholders from across Kogi West, including local government officials, security stakeholders, party leaders and community representatives, who reiterated the need for a united approach in confronting insecurity across the senatorial district.
Observers described the visit as a demonstration of solidarity with the affected community and a reflection of growing collaboration among leaders in Kogi West to support ongoing efforts aimed at improving security and protecting residents.
Residents of Iluke, while appreciating the visit, expressed hope that the renewed attention from government and stakeholders would translate into strengthened security measures capable of preventing future attacks.
